Lucky escape for driver and two female passengers as BMW X1 burst into flames on Hope Road, St. Andrew
A driver is now counting his blessings after his 2012 BMW X1 car was badly burnt out after it caught fire on Hope Road in St Andrew on Tuesday evening. The driver and two passengers made their escape just in time.
According to the owner and driver, Romell Parkinson, he was travelling from the University of Technology (UTech) with two female passengers. He was heading towards Half-Way Tree, when he started smelling smoke.
However the driver continued on his journey, despite the concern, as he saw no evidence of trouble.
But Parkinson related that upon reaching the vicinity of the YMCA property, the smell of smoke got stronger. At this point he decided to pull over and check the cause of the smoke.
Parkinson said on exiting the vehicle, he realized that fire was coming from under the rear of the vehicle on the right hand side of the car.
The driver and the two other passengers in the vehicle immediately started to remove their personal belongings from the vehicle, after which the car burst into flames.
The fire was eventually extinguished by a unit from the Trench Town Fire Station.
